Terms & Conditions
Last updated:
These terms govern your use of backed.love (the "platform"). By creating an account, publishing a profile, or sending a tip, you agree to them. They're written to be readable — the plain-language summary of each section is the section itself. If anything here conflicts with your rights under mandatory law, your rights win.
1. The platform, honestly stated
backed.love is a tipping and peer-endorsement platform for musicians. We're in an early, phased rollout: some features described here (tipping, payouts, QR codes, a searchable artist directory) arrive in stages. Where a feature isn't live yet, these terms describe how it will work when it is. We may add, change, or retire features as the platform develops — that's the deal with a young product, and we'll communicate changes rather than surprise you.
2. Accounts and eligibility
- You must be at least 16 years old to create an artist profile.
- One profile per artist or act. Profiles represent real, performing musicians.
- You're responsible for keeping your login secure and for everything done through your account.
- Some profiles are created as placeholders when an artist is invited through another artist's props. A placeholder can be claimed by the real artist — we'll ask for reasonable proof that you are who the profile says you are.
3. Props (peer endorsements)
- Each artist can give props to a maximum of three other artists, and can change them at any time.
- Props must be genuine recommendations of artists whose work you actually believe in. Never accept money, favours, or any consideration in exchange for a prop, and never offer it.
- Being listed or endorsed is always free. We will never charge for placement, ranking, or endorsement.
- Mutual props (artists endorsing each other) are allowed. We rely on transparency rather than rules: who endorses whom is visible to everyone.
- You may only give props to artists with a profile on the platform, or artists you invite to claim a placeholder.
4. Tipping, fees, and payouts
- Tips are voluntary payments from fans to artists. They are not purchases, and they don't create an obligation for the artist beyond anything they've explicitly promised (e.g. a shoutout or early track access).
- Payments are processed by Stripe. To receive tips, artists need a Stripe account and must complete Stripe's verification (KYC) process. Payout timing depends on Stripe.
- Tips are non-refundable, except where legally required (e.g. unauthorized or fraudulent payments).
5. Your content
- You keep all rights to the content you upload — photos, bios, links, music.
- You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host and display that content on the platform for as long as your profile exists, including in QR-code landing pages and shareable previews.
- You confirm you have the rights to everything you publish and that it doesn't infringe anyone else's rights.
6. QR codes
We provide QR codes that link to your profile or to contextual tipping moments (a specific show or song). Use them only for your own artist page or your own events. Don't generate, alter, or place codes in ways that mislead people about where they lead or who they're tipping.
7. What's not allowed
- Fake or duplicate accounts, or pretending to be an artist you're not.
- Using the platform to launder money, process fraudulent payments, or simulate tips (self-dealing loses money once fees apply — don't).
- Harassment, hate speech, or content that is unlawful, obscene, or infringes others' rights. Our content guidelinesapply in full.
- Scraping, automated abuse, or attempting to game rankings, props, or fees.
- Charging other artists to be endorsed (see Section 3).
8. Moderation and enforcement
We can review profiles and content, and remove anything that breaks these terms or our content guidelines. For serious violations we can suspend or delete your account. Where it's reasonable, we'll warn you first and give you a chance to fix things.
9. Termination
You can delete your account at any time; pending tips are still paid out to you. We can terminate accounts for violations of these terms, or if keeping your account becomes legally or technically impossible for us. If we terminate your account without cause, we'll tell you why.
10. No guarantees
The platform is provided "as is". We don't guarantee that you'll receive tips, endorsements, bookings, or any particular result from using it. Features in a pilot may change or be withdrawn.
11. Liability
To the extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim related to the platform is limited to the total fees you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose (during the free-pilot phase, that means zero). Nothing in these terms limits liability for intent, gross negligence, or anything else that can't be limited under Dutch law.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the platform evolves. We'll publish changes on this page with a new date and notify registered artists of significant changes. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by Dutch law. Disputes fall under the jurisdiction of the Dutch courts, unless mandatory consumer law gives you a different right.
